Erin McCormick - Assistant Environmental, Safety & Compliance Manager


 

What initially drew you to a career in the hospitality industry, and how has it shaped your professional growth?

Having grown up working in hospitality and studying International Hospitality Management at university, I knew I wanted a career in the industry but was unsure of the exact area. Galgorm allowed me to experience different departments, which ultimately led me to Health and Safety, where I have been able to develop and grow my career. I’ve gained valuable skills, built strong relationships, and taken on more responsibilities, making my growth at Galgorm incredibly rewarding.

What is career journey within the Galgorm Collection to date, and what does a typical day look like for you?

I joined Galgorm in September 2020 as a receptionist and switchboard operator before joining the Health & Safety team in May 2022 as a Health & Safety Administrative Assistant. In February 2024, I progressed to Assistant Environmental Safety and Compliance Manager. Each day, I work with my team to ensure a safe environment across the collection by conducting risk assessments, managing incidents, overseeing contractor compliance, and supporting sustainability initiatives.

What have been some key milestones or highlights in your career with us?

During my time at Galgorm, I’ve had fantastic opportunities for growth, including comprehensive training in Carbon Literacy, First Aid and Mental Health First Aid, DSE, as well as invaluable support in achieving my NEBOSH qualification. A key highlight has been contributing to our Green Tourism accreditation, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their career in hospitality?

My advice would be to learn from others around you and take every opportunity to grow. The hospitality industry is rewarding, and the more you engage and develop your skills, the more you'll benefit from the experiences and opportunities it offers.
