Takashi Ibbotson - Elements Manager, Galgorm


 

What initially drew you to a career in the hospitality industry? And how has it shaped your professional growth?

Having a history in many different career avenues, I decided to move away from traditional retail towards the world of hospitality. I was mesmerised by the notion of delivering quality guest experiences rather than simply processing transactions. Throughout the course of my career in the industry, the hotel sector has significantly influenced my professional development. It has instilled in me the value of adaptability and collaboration and has shaped me into the person I am today.

What is your career journey within Galgorm to date, and what does a typical day look like for you?

I embarked on my journey with Galgorm in 2022, at a time when the hospitality sector was gradually recovering from the effects and challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. I quickly developed a deep appreciation for the company, feeling for the first time that I was engaged in a career rather than merely holding a job. Since then, I have been promoted twice and currently serve as a Restaurant Manager in Elements in the award-winning Thermal Village. My time at Galgorm has taught me that there is no such thing as an ordinary day in hospitality; each day presents unique and thrilling experiences, filled with unexpected surprises. 

What have been some key milestones or highlights in your career with us?

Some of the groups or individuals I have had the pleasure of meeting in Galgorm whether they be staff, customers and even VIPS have been a key highlight of my time in Galgorm. Working in such a prestigious environment where I get the privilege of meeting people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures is really a pleasure and I am grateful every day for the opportunity for professional and personal growth through the connections I make with others.

What advice would you give someone just starting their career in hospitality?

Every single member of staff is vital in the overall operation of the business and in such an adaptable and vast industry there is a role that suits everyone. From my experience the most crucial piece of advice that I can give is always to be proactive and willing to develop your skills and knowledge. Opportunities to learn and progress are constantly arising and if you’re committed and hard-working you will find a job in the industry that you will fall in love with.

In your opinion, what sets Galgorm Collection apart from other hospitality brands, as an employer and a provider of exceeding guest experiences?

Through my time here I have gained so much on a personal and academic level through various courses and growth opportunities. I find it so encouraging to witness a family-owned enterprise leading the industry in Northern Ireland.

The word I would use to describe Galgorm Collection is “limitless”. It’s a continuously evolving environment with unbound potential and I look forward to seeing what the future of the collection will bring for staff and customers alike.
